The Morning Wake-Up Call

Do You Have Difficulty Getting Going
in the Morning?

Which is the most difficult part, waking up or staying awake? And how much time goes by before you actually get out of bed and can function well?

Tell me in a comment.

Here's my suggestion for how to reclaim this part of your morning. Create a morning routine that...

(1) Wakes you up & gets you up, before your children.

(2) Gives you time to become more awake, alert and functional be fore you have to do anything.

(3) Helps you move from cranky, groggy, tired and sleepy to less of all of the above.

That space that you give yourself, before you have to interact, and function, will make such a big difference in how your mornings begin.

And aromatherapy can help.

Aromatherapy for Tired Mamas

Because waking up and getting up can be such a challenge, tired moms need an essential oil or essential oil blend that compels and leads them to becoming fully awake and alert. But nobody wants to be led by a drill sergeant that early in the morning.

So it needs to be an essential oil you really like. One you want to keep breathing in, because you love the scent.

And that may be more important than which essential oil is best for helping you become alert.

For example, peppermint oil may help you wake up, but if you don't like it, why bother? You might prefer a cozy scent, like ginger, instead.

Gingerbread cookies, anyone?

See you next time!

Love, Jeanine

Love reading your morning blogs. You make some good points. you need to get up earlier and put the cankyness and grogginess behind before taking on the day.
What aroma therapy would you think that makes a man relax?

Thanks, Douglas!! Well, lavender and chamomile are both deeply relaxing, but sometimes men prefer scents that are more masculine. For that, you get want to try a tree scent. A specific blend I have used myself is Balance, a doTERRA blend. I am not in love with the forest scent, but it sure has worked when I have used it.

I meant that I NEED, not you need. Duh!

I'm the lucky one, I've never had a problem waking up or getting up. But I do like my lavender facial scrub every morning

Martha, you're right - you are so lucky! Wish I could say the same about my own relationship with mornings. And a lavender facial scrub sounds wonderful. What a soothing way to wake up gently.

I have chronic sleep disturbance/insomnia issues. I wake up every 2-3 hours throughout the night, then struggle to get up, even if I’m awake because I’m still so tired.

I am so sorry to hear that, Lillian! I have had some struggles with insomnia in the past, myself. I was never able to find an easy solution, so I certainly won't suggest that there is one. If you wanted to try essential oils, you could consult with an aromatherapist, in addition to working with your regular healthcare provider. I did that myself and was given the rather smelly essential oil that I wrote about a few posts ago. It worked for me, but may not be what would have been chosen for you. Hope you do find a solution!

Oh, I love peppermint AND ginger! This morning I had my face fully planted in my pillow. It was so hard to wake up! Zzzz. I will remember to use oils tomorrow. I have a fun day of Ta-Da Tuesday! Being wide awake bright and early is essential!

Oh, how neat that you love them both, Julie! I agree, that being wide awake is essential and it can be so frustrating when, instead, you struggle to come to life. Glad you have some essential oils on hand.

I really struggle to wake up in the morning and to shift focus from nighttime sleepiness to morning activities. Caffeine does nothing for me. The shower is the first thing that helps with the transition. Maybe aromatherapy would help, too.

Alice, I can relate to what you are saying all too well! What I like about the idea of trying an essential oil or two is that you can use it by doing nothing more complicated than breathing it in, and sometimes that's about all I can manage first thing in the morning.
